DAY6’s SUNGJIN took a step towards ‘self-employment’ with ’30’
DAY6’s leader and main vocalist, Sungjin, released his first solo album ’30’.
In 2015, Sungjin debuted with DAY6 under JYP Entertainment, and after 9 years, he released his first solo album. The album, titled ’30’, consists of 10 slow songs. You can truly experience the charm of SUNGJIN’s mesmerizing voice in this album. All the lyrics and arrangements of the songs in ’30’ were written and composed by SUNGJIN.
The album opens with the track ‘동화 속 아이처럼 (Covered in Love)’. In this song, we meet a SUNGJIN who yearns for love and warmth. He expresses his wish with the line, “Make a wish everyone would be covered in love,” sharing a heartfelt hope for everyone.
In the song ‘I Don’t Want to Do Anything,‘ we see a tired, reflective, and daydreaming SUNGJIN. He just wants to be alone and enjoy the day without doing anything. The combination of the electric guitar and SUNGJIN’s rocky voice makes this track one of the unforgettable songs.
In the final track of the album, “Memories”, we encounter a SUNGJIN struggling with the pain of love and loss. Looking back at old memories, he describes how revisiting them only brings the hurt back to life. The song serves as proof of SUNGJIN’s skill in both songwriting and singing.
When you listen to the album, you feel that SUNGJIN has matured and begun to reflect more deeply on life.
Following Young K, Dowoon, and Wonpil, SUNGJIN has proven that he can be just as successful in music on his own, without the other members of DAY6. We will certainly hear more solo projects from him in the future.
